Sardinia’s Costa del Sud is unquestionably one of the island’s great scenic highlights. This ride centres on the spectacular road running along this dream coastline.
To extend the route to nearly 100 kilometres, start in Giba, a small village 13 kilometres south-east of Carbonia. For a shorter loop, begin in Teulada; none of the route’s scenery is lost.
Via Roma and then the SS195 lead south on fast, flat roads. Just before Teulada, turn right onto the SP71 and soon reach the coast.
The next 25 kilometres are pure road-cycling joy: a quiet, winding road follows the cliffs, rising and falling past small coves, very little tourism infrastructure and countless photo stops.
Near the end of this outstanding coastal road there is a well-earned espresso before the route turns inland. At Domus de Maria, a beautiful 300-metre pass leads back towards Teulada.
On the longer option, another climb takes you to Santadi before the route returns to the start via Via Cagliari and the SS293.
